When Allison Bennett looks in the mirror, she sees a woman whose life has gone from bad to worse. At the mercy of an abusive husband, sweet tenderness is something she can only dream about…until she finds it in the arms of Drew Dunne.
Not every sacrifice is worthwhile, not every promise is worth keeping, and events in a small Georgia town will test this pair to the very depths of their souls, but at the end of the journey is the truth that—if you’re willing to pay the price—true love can conquer all. Drew Dunne will finally be with the woman he loves. Or die trying.
I will start by saying that I have not read anything previously written by this author, so I wasn't sure what to expect. One thing I do know was that I didn't expect what was in this book. This author takes the reader on one hell of a ride.
Drew's life has been horrible, absolutely horrible. He resigns himself to live his life as it is because he feels responsible for something he had no control over. Not only did he have to grow up with an abusive father, but he has married an abusive woman who he despises. It seems as though no one in the town will take up for him with the exception of a few and he has no desire to change the way he lives. That is until the remarkable Allison comes into his life.
Allison's life is no better than Drew's. She is married to an abusive man who feels her only purpose in life is to please him, either willing or by force. She hates her life, but doesn't believe she deserves any better. When she meets Drew, it seems her life now has meaning.
They both fall in love at first sight; however, they are not sure how to be together. When the other people in their lives realize they have feelings for each other, they will do whatever it takes to keep them apart.
