Review of Wind Chime Summer by Sophie Moss

Wind Chime Summer blurb:
If you open your heart, it will always lead you home…

Since leaving the Army six months ago, Izzy Rivera has closed herself off from everyone and everything. Struggling with a debilitating case of PTSD, she has been fired from three jobs and was recently arrested for assault. Her last hope is a rehab program for veterans on Heron Island, which she was admitted to on a probationary basis and which she must complete to stay out of jail.

After establishing an illustrious career as a marine biologist, Ryan Callahan has returned to Heron Island to open a nonprofit to save the Chesapeake Bay and help his father—a fourth-generation waterman—expand his oyster farm. As one of the primary employers for the veterans’ center, Ryan is counting on his new workforce to make the merging of these two operations a success.

But Ryan underestimated the challenges of employing a group of physically and psychologically wounded veterans—particularly the female Army veteran who wants nothing to do with his nonprofit, his father’s farm, or the peaceful island that’s supposed to help her heal. Can Ryan find a way to convince Izzy to believe in something again? Or will the shell she’s built around her heart trap her in the past forever?

Review:

This book was, without a doubt, amazing.  I have read the previous books in this series and while I think there are wonderful themselves, this book blows them away.  I absolutely fell in love with Izzy and Ryan.  My heart went out to both of them in so many ways.  They both had broken souls that needed mending, but didn't know how to overcome the heartache of their past. However, the more time they spent working together everyday, the walls around them began to weaken.

I could not get enough of this book.  Once I started, I honestly could not put it down.  There are so many layers to this book and these characters, that I just wanted more.  Who am I kidding, I still want more.  Ryan and Izzy have wormed their way into my heart and I can honestly say, this book is going on my re-read list.  The author did a wonderful job of creating characters you could connect to and identify with.  I loved each and every word and I can't wait to see who story she graces us with next!

LIZ

“There is a tall, handsome and might I add dreamy hunk of a man waiting just outside for you.”

I tried not to laugh at the wide-eyed expression of the teenage girl standing in my doorway. She was awestruck apparently, and the way she was smiling had to cramp her cheeks.

“Did you get his name?” I asked, already knowing who it was.

Her smile faltered as she looked over her shoulder, then back to me. “I forgot to ask,” she said in a high-pitched voice. “I guess I was distracted.”

It was my turn to smile, “Believe me when I say I know exactly how that can happen.” She looked a little relieved. “His name is Ben, and you can send him in.”

With a nod, she stepped out and within seconds he appeared in the open doorway.

“Good morning,” he said as he moved in and sat on the edge on my desk. His large frame practically swallowed up the surface beneath him. “You avoiding me again?”

“No.” I leaned back and crossed my arms over my chest. “I’ve actually been busy.”

He watched me closely, as if I would somehow show him I was lying. Arching my brow, I remained in place and his smile grew wider. “Have lunch with me.” It wasn’t a request.

“Busy,” I replied, holding up the stack of papers on my desk and giving them a little shake.

“Dinner then. I’ll even bring it to you if you can't get away.”

“What are we having?” I asked, still not yet agreeing.

“What do you want?” His eyes remained locked on mine as he gave me a mischievous grin. Ben and I had developed this little flirty game. In fact, we’d pretty much mastered it. I knew he wanted me, and I wanted him. That was never the issue. I just had to learn to get past my hesitance and fears of what could go wrong.

“Steak,” I finally said, ignoring the flutter in my stomach. “Seasoned vegetables and garlic roasted potatoes.”

“Can we forego the garlic? I kinda wanna kiss you later and I don’t want any excuses from you. If I add garlic into the mix, well, I’m setting myself up for disappointment.”

I couldn't help the laughter that bubbled up and spilled from me. “You’re insane.”

“For you, yes.”

Review of DRUNK ON YOU by Harper Sloan

    Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00005]

It was supposed to be fun. A mutual use of each other's bodies. To be a ruse to the world around us. I wanted to be free from my ex, and he wanted to escape his.   One drunken night turned a joke into a life-changing moment. He warned me not to fall for him, and I should've listened.   He intoxicated me. He made me crave him. He ruined me. In the end, I'll never be the same.

    REVIEW

Absolutely perfect! I am a sucker for anything written by Harper Sloan, so when I found out this one was making its debut, I couldn't wait! Needless to say, it did not disappoint.

Shane and Nikki had been attracted to each other for a while, but they were attached to other people. When they finally got the opportunity to give into their desires, it was more than either one could have hoped for. Their feelings for each other grow every day and they have no desire to end their relationship anytime soon. But when their past comes back to haunt them, would their new feelings be enough to hold them together?

I absolutely loved Shane and Nikki's story. They were perfect for each other in every way. I loved how Nikki made Shane realize that she would support him in each and every way and nothing would make her stop loving him. I don't think the author could have written them any better, Nikki was the perfect soft to Shane's hard. Once again, Harper has hit it out of the park and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!

A point in time, an unexpected event, changes everything.

Reagan’s life was about to begin. A recent college graduate with her career about to launch, she was living in Boston with her best friends. She had everything she worked hard for until one man took it all away, leaving her feeling empty and desolate.

After spending a few years alone, Reagan finally moves to Chicago with her best friend, Aimee, and vows to put her past behind her. When Reagan lands a job at Powers Financial, she never expects to find the one person that would give her back the girl she left behind years ago.

Drew Powers loves being the powerful CFO of a successful corporation and raising his son, Dawson. He's known as "asshat" at the company and it doesn't help calm his temper or patience. Drew's main focus doesn't include love or commitment. Those are the last things on his mind.

When the reserved and beautiful Reagan Halloway bumps into him and tests his patience, he ignores the lust he feels for her until she becomes all he can think about.

Fate is a powerful thing. A force that leads two people to one another and gives them both the one thing they didn’t know they were missing.
