- SYNOPSIS -
Like fire and ice, Alexandra Callet’s life runs hot and cold.

At the age of thirty-three, Alexandra owns a stunning home and a successful interior design company. But she is in love with her business partner, Jake Taylor, and he doesn’t even seem to realize she’s a woman. She should be on top of the world, but instead she feels dragged down by the void in her heart. Hoping for answers, she decides a trip to Mexico might soothe her soul.

Jake Taylor only pretends to be a confirmed bachelor.

Jake has been entranced by Alexandra’s determination and exotic beauty since the moment they met, but she has no idea how he feels. He considers confessing his love, but fears jeopardizing their friendship and business. He’s caught in a web of pretending he doesn’t care, and doesn’t see a way out of it.

Alexandra is recruited for a dangerous mission.

Following her trip to Mexico, her resemblance to a member of an assassin’s family leads Alexandra to be recruited by the DEA. Her training leaves her distracted, and her business begins to suffer. Jake notices her sudden change, and feels her slipping both personally and professionally beyond his reach. Should he finally take the chance…before it’s too late? After all, he has nothing to lose.

However, when Alexandra returns to Mexico for her mission, things go terribly wrong.

Will she be able find the strength to fight and escape the peaceful haven that has now become her prison? Or will Jake lose Alexandra forever…

- REVIEW -

This book is the definition of ones life being turned upside down!  One day Alex was an interior designer and the next she was working for the DEA.  Talk about flippin' the script!  I mean, how does that even happen?  Well in this case it's because Alex looked like the sister of a highly sought after criminal.  What better way to get close to the one you need to take down than to infiltrate their world?

Alex was such a strong woman that I instantly liked her.  She knew how to hold her ground and would let nothing stop her in her mission to help the DEA.  Her only worry?  Losing the one person she has loved for so long, her business partner Jake.

Jake has wanted to confront Alex with his feelings for a while, but he doesn't want to put their relationship in jeopardy.  However, when she goes undercover for the DEA, he begins to realize how much keeping his feelings quite may cost him...everything.  Will Jake and Alex be able to come to terms with Alex's new gig?   Will Alex make it back home alive?  Will Jake and Alex get the HEA they both deserve?

I truly enjoyed this book.  I loved the suspense of watching Alex take on this new, dangerous role and her showing how truly strong she was.  I loved the growth for both Alex and Jake's characters.  The author did a good job of keeping the story flowing and keeping the reader engaged.  Well done SK Derban!

- EXCERPT -

Alexandra walked back to the sofa, ready to resume watching the recordings. She sat down before looking up at Kevin. He stood at the door with his hand poised on the light switch.

“I’ll let you get back to work,” he said. “You can stay and keep me company if you want.”

“That would be a lot better than the piles of paperwork on my desk. But thanks anyway. I better go.”
“Kevin?” Alexandra asked, stopping him. “Do I have any privacy?”

“It’s only the phones, Alex. Not the house.”

“You know, I still don’t completely comprehend your reasoning.”

“I know you don’t, but thanks for not pushing.”

“You’re welcome.” When she pushed the play button, he flipped the light switch. When Alexandra didn’t hear his footsteps walking away, she whispered, “Kevin?”

“I’m still here,” he said from the dark.

“I’ll be okay. I know I can do this. I can really do this.”

“You know, kid.” Alexandra could hear the smile in his tone. “I never doubted you could.”
