Review & Giveaway - THE JUNIOR BRIDESMAID by Amy Baker

The Junior Bridesmaid
by Amy Baker
Release: March 7, 2014
Contemporary, Romance

Sixteen-year-old Delilah Welling never understood why Darcy Strong despised her so much. Especially since their mothers had been friends for a lifetime. So when Delilah is asked to be The Junior Bridesmaid in Darcy's wedding, Delilah is understandably surprised and reluctant to say yes. Upon her mother's insistence, Delilah finally agrees determined to look at the bright side.  And there couldn’t be a brighter side than Hugh Rowen, a.k.a. the groom. Delilah has always been in love with Hugh and could never understand what a nice guy like Hugh was doing with a wench like Darcy. Before the wedding, Delilah discovers that the bride-to-be is keeping a torrid secret. Fearful that she will hurt Hugh, she remains silent, going about her Junior Bridesmaid duties as planned. Until... All hell breaks loose during the wedding ceremony. Embarrassed and devastated, Delilah flees the wedding. But not before hurting the love of her life. Twelve years later, Delilah is 28 and living a happy existence in New York. Until one day when she receives a message addressed to JUNIOR? Has Hugh hunted her down twelve years later to exact revenge or is he in New York for a different reason entirely? Either way, twelve years is a long time to wait to find out! ***This is a stand alone novel meant for mature readers over the age of 18 due to mature content and language.***

“Anyway, what would make me think that it would have mattered to you if I’d returned to Virginia?” I asked way too confrontationally raising my eyebrows to accentuate my point.
Then I proceeded to machine gun my supportive evidence.
“You never called to check on me after the wedding or to ask if I was being ostracized at school or if I was totally humiliated since I essentially bowled my tits down the aisle in the middle of a wedding ceremony! Look ma! No hands!”
I was yelling wasn’t I?

My face couldn’t have flushed faster. I don’t know what the fuck I was doing. I totally obliterated his wedding and I was reading him the riot act on how he should have behaved after? Well it seemed that as fast as I had grown a set of balls my tongue had also grown a mind of its own. I had no control over what was coming out of my mouth, whatsoever. When I finally looked at Hugh, really looked at him, I saw that he was stunned speechless. I became even more flustered and it actually started to feel like my head was a pressure cooker and it could blow at any given moment. Since shoving my napkin in my own mouth wasn’t an option, I brought it to my lips hoping it would deter me from blurting out any other latent anger that I wasn’t aware I was harboring.

Delilah has been in love with Hugh half her life and no one else will ever measure up to him.  When she was 16 she found out something that changed Hugh’s life and kept him for making a huge mistake.  She believes that he hates her and will never forgive what happened that fateful day.  Little does she know, Hugh is thankful for her interference.
Fast forward 12 years and Delilah and Hugh meet again.  Her attraction to him has not waivered, if anything, it is even stronger.  Hugh finally admits how he feels about her and it seems like they will finally get their HEA.  However, nothing is ever that easy.  Delilah’s co-worker has it out for her and sabotages her job.  She is forced to leave New York and Hugh and move to Virginia.  As fate would have it her life doesn’t get any better there and she gets fired from her job before she even starts.
The only silver lining to returning to Virginia is that she gets the chance to reconnect with her best friend.  She finds out that her friend has a secret of her own and helps her to come to grips with how she really feels.
Soon Delilah gets a call that could take her back to Hugh.  Will she risk getting hurt to go back?  Does she really believe they can be happy together?  Is she willing to let go and finally get the man of her dreams?  To get the answers to those questions you will need to read the book.
I enjoyed reading this story.  It was a good read that had you wondering what else could go wrong in Delilah’s life.  There were times I just wanted to scream at the book because it seemed liked the Universe was hell bent on making Delilah miserable.  There were also times that I wanted to yell at Delilah because she frustrated me with some of her decisions.  In the end, I was delighted with how the story ended.  While I would have liked more, I know how it ended was perfect.  Make sure to go get your copy today and see what obstacles stand in the way of Delilah and Hugh’s HEA!!

“I’ve been wanting to kiss you for twelve years and couldn’t wait another fucking second,” he clarified then he pressed his luscious lips to mine again just as a soft groan emanated from his throat. “God that is so much better than I have been imagining.” ~Hugh

“It didn’t take me long at all, Hugh.  I fell in love with you the instant I set my eyes on you.”
