     Ok, I'm going to start this review by saying that I have not read anything by Lori Power before so I had no idea how she could turn a book full of tragedy and heartbreak into a wonderful love story. Lori nailed all aspects of a romantic suspense novel.  There was so much heartache, angst and suspense intertwined with hope, longing and a love so strong the characters had no chance of evading it.  
     Mitch and Lorna met in college and never truly got over the heartache of a supposed wrong at the end of their senior year.  While they moved on in their lives, they never moved on in their hearts.  When a collision thrust them back into each others lives, their chemistry is reawakened.  However, when Mitch's job put Lorna in the spotlight as a potential suspect, their relationship is truly put to the test.  
     Will Mitch lose Lorna once and for all?  Will Lorna be able to overcome the heartbreak of learning she is a suspect in a crime ring?  When Lorna's life is on the line, will Mitch be able to save her?  The answers to those questions and so much more are inside this little gem.  
     I am so glad I read this one.  It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.  I couldn't put it down as I was dying to know what was going to happen next.  I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in the series and what lies in store for Mitch and Lorna.  After reading this one, you will understand why Mitch has become one of my all time favorite BBFs!!!

As Mitch’s hand reached out for her shoulder she shrunk from his touch, again a little girl who couldn’t stand sympathetic contact. She bathed him with a hard look. “How could you do this to me,” she spat. “After what we shared, how can you think I was involved? How dare you!”
A shuddered breath wracked her tense body and she refused to let the tightening of her throat release the threatened tears as she continued in a hoarse whisper. “I would have thought your investigation would have revealed where the money came from,” she said forming air quotes over the word investigation. Swallowing to contain her emotions further, Lorna stood in the hopes of putting an end to the conversation. “As for Tim Fong. He’s the CEO of Aqua Oil. My client. I am their marketing person. I handle PR and media relations. That’s what I do—what my company does. Investigate that! I don’t know and have never heard of the Fong Family. I am sure everyone has some shady characters in their background. As you unearthed, I obviously did.”
“Lorna …”
Feeling the weight of sadness envelope her like a blanket, Lorna waved her hand at him, palm outstretched in dismissal. “I’m tired Mitch.” She sighed forcing her feet to move and hold her weight without shaking as she backed away.
Looking down at the one and only man who ever made her feel special, wanted, desired, Lorna realized all of it – her feelings – the way she thought he felt for her – it was all a big lie. Just another lie. He used her to get to her client and she felt deflated, drained of all emotion. How could someone she had been so open, so intimate with assume that she was somehow involved in an illegal crime ring? Because you have a record of being involved in criminal activities.
“Lorna, please. I can’t lose you again . . .” Mitch stood to reached for her hand.


She turned at her name. The anguish in his voice almost, but not quite able to penetrate her defensive shell. Arms crossed protectively over her stomach, holding firm to her sides, she lowered her head. “You’re not the person I thought you were,” she said turning. From over her shoulder she continued. “You’re not someone I want in my life.”

           The wine tasted heavenly.  I had moaned in appreciation of how smooth and complex it tasted, with a hint of sweetness.  It seemed to warm me from the inside out and helped me to relax.   
Rafe’s hand came up and caressed the side of my face.  “Bella, if you keep moaning like that we won’t be talking.”
I’d opened my eyes fearing what he’d meant.  I watched as he leaned closer, took my wine glass, and set it down on the table.  He was so close, the heat from his body warmed me. His caramel eyes pinned my gaze and his lips hovered just over mine. “I think I’ll take a taste of this magnificent wine.”  Before I could breathe, his lips were on mine, his teeth nipped at my bottom lip, his tongue begged to dance with mine.  I gasped, and his mouth devoured mine. One hand cupped the nape of my neck, drawing me inexorably closer to him. 
My body was on fire as Rafe’s mouth passionately explored mine.  One of his hands moved down to caress one of my breasts, teasing it to a hardened point before showing the other the same attention. 
We were both breathless.  His forehead rested against mine and his hand caressed the side of my face.  “I want you Dawn, more than I’ve ever wanted anyone.  I’ve been lost not being able to talk to you.”  He drew one of my hands to the obvious bulge in his pants to show just how affected he was. “I need you, to be inside you, feel you, and become one with you, mia bella angelo.  Please let me have tonight with you, my beautiful angel. I pressed my lips firmly to his, strong desire coursing through me. 
His embrace unyielding, he laid me back on the sofa. He hovered over me and snatched the tie from my clumsy fingers.  “You’re mine, now.  Please say you’ll surrender to me and let me show you just how good we can be together.”
My mind emptied as my body heated and tingled with every caress of his hands.  “Okay.”  I breathed.
I’d managed to get the word out of my mouth, then felt one of his legs shift between mine, grinding his cock against my center, it’s rigid length pressed against my inner thigh.  I became aware of nothing except Rafe pressed firmly against mine. My body was his to control, and I was not afraid—I reveled in his power.  Was this what Marissa meant by the joy of submitting, letting go of everything and just feeling the moment?

Rick waved to Paul, the evening security guard, and exited the office building. Another midnight departure. It wasn’t that Rick noticed the time anymore; a fifteen-hour work day was common for him. Tonight though, he left with each task on his to-do list accomplished.

Dead tired, he focused on the parking garage across the street. At the walking signal, he jogged to the other side. Two huddled bodies in the bus stop enclosure captured his attention. “What are you doing?” He rushed toward them, stopping at the edge of the bench.

“It wasn’t a choice, Maggie.” He leaned down to scoop Cece into his arms, but Maggie put her hand up, stopping him.

“Don’t.” She stared, unrelenting, and her back scooted into the corner of the booth. Her tight, squared shoulders were on full alert. “How do I know you aren’t some lunatic?”

He wanted to laugh, he really did, but her honest reaction shouldn’t have surprised him. Used to getting his way, he hadn’t thought twice or considered she’d protest the offer. His mouth pulled into a frown as he considered his intimidating stance towering over her. He backed up a few steps, raising his hands. Unwilling to relent, he scrolled through his cell, pressed a few buttons, and when he got an answer, he kept his focus on her. “I need you to vouch for me.” His best friend’s laughter on the other end ticked him off, but he wouldn’t rest until he had his way. “Mention I’m a good guy.” Then he eased closer to Maggie, his hand extended, urging her to accept a concession he wasn’t used to making.

Her eyes flicked from him to the phone and back a few times. He wasn’t sure if the blank look on her face meant she believed him or she’d scream for help. Several tense seconds later, she plucked the cell from his hands, her fingertips clipped to the top and nowhere near close to touching him. “Hello.” Her quiet, reserved whisper revealed hesitancy, but her intense observation demonstrated she wouldn’t surrender easily. “Maggie Tyson.” After a brief pause she answered with a relieved and happy bounce in her voice, “Oh, Matt, hey.” She listened and nodded, her lips curled into a quirky smile and disappeared before he could appreciate it. “Yeah. Uh, huh. Will do, bye.”

After he tucked the phone in his suit pocket, his hand clenched it over and over, waiting for her to say something, anything. Tired of the long silence and her scrutinizing inspection of his eyes, nose, mouth, and grinding jaw, he rocked back and forth on his heels for the second time. “Well?”
